My version
It gives me great pleasure in welcoming all our members to the annual general meeting of the Queen’s English Society. Members have been doing their best to try and arrest any deterioration in the English language.
It seems vital that our members should establish a good liaison with education authorities in their area. It is open to them to become councillors, to serve our local education committees. In that way, they would be able to influence the curriculum and how the English language is taught.
It has to be explained to them. It’s not posh. It’s practical to be able to communicate clearly amongst everybody in these islands as well as overseas.
